Martial Arts in Thibodaux – Pre-K Martial Arts, Jiu Jitsu, Striking

11.13.23 Next Generation Martial Arts in Thibodaux schedule today includes Pre-K Martial Arts, Jiu Jitsu, and striking classes.

On Saturday we had a handful of individuals compete at the Warriors of Hope Tournament in Houma at Blacklist Martial Arts. We had a lot of first time competitors and all of them did very well.

About

First let’s talk about Marley Mosier from our kids class. Overcoming her natural fear and anxiety, she stepped on the mats with tears in her eyes and fought hard. Of all the competitors I witnessed that day, she showed the most heart and bravery.

Liam Gustafson, another from our kids class competed as well. Liam was much improved from last year. He stayed more calm and relaxed, and was able to make better decisions as a result. He was in control of both of his matches and wasn’t overwhelmed by the idea of competing. As a competitor, this is a very big step in the right direction.

Ty Smith, decided to jump in the competition as well. Having an extensive competition background he’s no stranger to competition but this was his first time in the adult division. He competed well and had moments where his potential showed. I can’t wait to watch his improvement over the next year.

Blaize Mims entered this competition as well. This was his first time competing and he showcased everything he’s learned over the past year. He stayed in control during his matches and dished out a lot of heavy pressure. His best technical move of the day was “stand in base” from open guard. It doesn’t sound like much, but his natural tendency to get off the bottom was nice to see.

Last on the day was Tucker Daniels. This too was his first time competing and possibly his first time rolling with someone outside of Next Generation Martial Arts. He was able to stay in control during his matches and even hit a nice foot sweep that you can see in the video below.

By the end of the day our five competitors brought home a total of five medals, 2 gold and 3 silvers. Great job everyone!
