Closed Guard Top — Scissor Hub

Scissor Hub

What To Think About This Week

The Lesson

The Knee In Break is the most technical guard break in the system — and the most dangerous if done carelessly. Your arms are exposed during the setup, and that window is exactly when experienced bottom players will go for the armlock.

The solution isn't to rush through it. It's to control their arms before your arms become vulnerable. Slow their shoulders down, shut their hips down, and only then build your quad pod. Control first, break second.

Once you're in position — knee at their tailbone, squatting down — trust the mechanics. The guard will slide. Don't force it. The wedge finishes what the knee started, and once the guard opens, getting your knee heavy to the mat closes the door on re-closing.

Class Rolling & Takedown Rules

How We Roll

White vs White
Flow training by default unless the instructor specifies otherwise. Build movement and good habits before competition pressure.
Upper vs Lower
Lower ranking student picks their top position. Blue through black vs white, or blue vs black — the lower rank decides where to start.
Purple / Brown / Black
Neutral start or request a specific position you want to work on. Self-directed development at this level.
Takedown Rounds
Same rules apply. White vs white — controlled and flowing. Upper vs lower — lower rank picks entry or tie-up. Purple / brown / black — neutral or requested start.
