Mount Bottom — Thread Escape

Recognize the position · Protect the arms · Scoop the knee · Bridge and turn · Take the back or pass

What To Think About This Week

The Lesson

Did they step past your hip? Good — that's the Thread Escape. The first job is to not panic. Protect the choke arm on top, protect the armlock arm on the bottom, and settle. You have time. Calm creates the opportunity.

When you're ready: scoop under that high knee first, hike it toward your shoulder. Bottom hand finds the ankle. Both set — bridge and turn. Try to pop out behind them. Did you make it? You're in turtle top. Did they roll? You're on top passing. Did they sit back hard? Their leg is light — put them in half guard and keep working.

Every reaction they make gives you something. Stay calm, read what they give you, and take it.

Class Rolling & Takedown Rules

How We Roll

White vs White
Flow training by default unless the instructor specifies otherwise. Build movement and good habits before competition pressure.
Upper vs Lower
Lower ranking student picks their top position. Blue through black vs white, or blue vs black — the lower rank decides where to start.
Purple / Brown / Black
Neutral start or request a specific position you want to work on. Self-directed development at this level.
Takedown Rounds
Same rules apply. White vs white — controlled and flowing. Upper vs lower — lower rank picks entry or tie-up. Purple / brown / black — neutral or requested start.
