Open Guard — Butterfly Guard

Butterfly Guard Attacks

What To Think About This Week

The Lesson

Butterfly guard is a guard that rewards connection. The closer you stay to your partner the more control you have and the more options become available. The moment you lose that connection the guard loses its effectiveness.

This week focus on staying attached. Feel how the three techniques this week all grow from the same connected position. The sweep, the leg hug, and the back take are not three separate things — they are three answers to three different reactions from the same starting point. Stay connected. Read the reaction. Apply the answer.
